We have had some company lately and found ourselves eating out a bit. I thought I’d update you on our favorite places to take company. You can view all my restaurant blogs by clicking on the “Blog” button located on top of my webpage. www.ilovecitruscountyflorida.com. I am also including the up and coming Citrus County activities.
We had some good lunches:
The Teahouse in Crystal River- a wide variety of iced teas and good chicken salad. We think The Havana House in Lecanto still serves the best Cuban in the area.
Panera Bread (Inverness) is always good for lunch and they always have good chicken noodle soup and a variety of ever changing specialty sandwiches and fresh salads!
For lunch, we could not go to the new Crumps Landing (Homosassa) because it is closed on Mondays. We have heard they have heaters when weather is cool and that they have a menu with lots of variety. Friends had a good lunch there. A previous dinner we had there was good. Love the atmosphere!
We did then have a good lunch at Margherita Grille (Homosassa): a great reuben and a delish chicken quesadilla.
Jimmy T’s NY Deli (Hernando) is my favorite place for lunch: Pressed crispy wrap, tuna and chicken salad, Greek salad and good soups.
Cattle Dogs Roasters (Inverness, Hernando, Lecanto) I like the monthly changing menu items including gourmet sandwiches and salads. Do not like that they charge for iced tea refills.
We also went to Seagrass for lunch and they’re still charging 2% on your bill if you charge …still noisy …but the clam chowder and house salad were very good. One of the few restaurants you can order cobia fish.
My sweet tooth girlfriend could not believe the wonderful “Hummingbird Cake” that Amy’s on Fifth serves. It took her three days to finish it …with a little help from her friends. (Amy’s cookie is pretty awesome too.)
Can’t beat barbecue at Hardwood Smokehouse in Crystal River.
Our favorite restaurant, of course, for fine dining is the Vintage on Fifth (Crystal River). The service and food are always good. Our guests who visit every year have voted to go there every visit!
La Casa Di Norma (Crystal River) also serves a very good meal with their handcrafted specialty dinners.
Bankok Thai (Beverly Hills) is always our favorite for pretty healthy eating and the service and food is always very good. Love wonton soup and the Pad Thai. (you can order no spice!)
Cedar River Fish House (Inverness) has reasonably priced (senior menu) and decent seafood dishes.
Katch 22 (Lecanto) is an excellent restaurant. The food and service are superb. But it is expensive.
2019;CLOSED: Vandervalk (Inverness) is our next favorite restaurant for dinner… and lunch not bad either. Noisy at times.
2019;CLOSED:We returned to the Greenhouse Bistro. We do miss the former owner who used to come around the tables to chat and make sure that everything was going well. Didn’t care for the salad. We sent the “herb” butter back…too much garlic. They are serving a cheap house wine but reasonably priced. We still like the restaurant because it is not a storefront and the menu choices are more “ tame” foods than what used to be on the menu. Food is good. Steve and Janice were there and they enjoyed their meals and consider it one of their favorite restaurants .
WHAT TO DO THIS WINTER? SEE CURRENT IDEAS BELOW and/or visit my past blogs AND VIEW “to do”
Manatee season: you can hire a local company to take you by boat to see the manatee or you can take the trolley and tour Crystal River and stop at Three Sisters Springs to see them also. The trolley runs out of the Chamber of Commerce. You can also go to the Homosassa Wild Life Park. There is a nice boat trip to the main park from park information center on Hwy 19. Besides seeing and learning about the manatee, there is a very nice Florida Wildlife Zoo to walk around.
You can also work with a CC tour/event company. They help you plan excursions/activities. I ran across a new company in Crystal River next to AMY’s: Explorida, www.explorida.com ,352-423-3798.
