This week I thought I would do an update on our local YMCA. With its almost 11,000 members, the programs continue to expand including the fitness classes, special programs and healthy lifestyle challenges. Despite the rumors and the parking lot that looks full, I have never had a problem using the fitness center—there are so many ellipticals (more than 12), 2 moving steppers, treadmills (about 20), more than 12 stationary styled bikes and 32+ fitness machines/stations to choose from. With the recent expansion, a free weight room was added to extend the workout area. I love the new 6- station Nautilus Circuit-designed for a quick 10 minute “ all-round good workout.”
See pictures at end.
With numerous dispensers around, I love that everyone sanitize the machines after they use them.
I’ve attached the list of FITNESS classes as well as a description of the classes. I enjoy the Nature Walk. Everyone who walks “around the block” on a daily basis enjoys a little change. The Y’s nature path has wood chips and natural pine straw— probably around a two mile round trip walk on the backwoods area of the Y property.
The retractable roof over the lap pool provides year-round swimming.
Basketball and Pickle ball areas are now available.
The youth programs are ever-changing and the Y continues to be a wonderful asset to our community.
Once a month or so they have a parent night out…parents for a nominal charge can leave their children for an evening of fun activities and dinner.
Joanna Castle, District VP describes the YMCA:

A YMCA membership provides families with opportunities to build stronger, deeper bonds and experience healthy activities together. The Y also encourages senior members to grow in the areas of physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being. The Y offers seniors the opportunity to maintain a healthy lifestyle, beneficial relationships and a positive outlook on life.
As the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community, the charitable mission of the Y provides the opportunity to participate in programs and services to everyone in the community regardless of their ability to pay.
The Y also welcomes volunteers to help support us with programs, advocacy, and building relationships. We are always looking for committed individuals to match them with a meaningful volunteer experience where they can help others and support the mission of the YMCA.
