Time to do an update of some restaurants that opened in Citrus County area and a review of Homosassa, Lecanto, Hernando, and Beverly Hills area establishments. Included in the new: The Wildfire Cafe (former Coyote Cafe), World Fusion (former Sushi-O), Michael Anthony’s (in a new location) and to come: Margarita Grill. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The Wildfire Cafe (10823 Yulee, Homosassa, 352-628-5222) https://www.facebook.com/wildfirecafe/ is a breakfast and/or lunch place with a continually changing menu and freshly made food. Portions are ample-but no brewed iced tea! Very small eating area with a nice gift shop and two shopping places next door for stained glass and pottery.
Michael Anthony’s (3938 S. Suncoast Blvd, 352-628-7827); http://www.michaelanthonyspizza.co/ ; https://www.facebook.com/MichaelAnthonysPizza/ in a new location with carry out and eat-in business. They accomodated a large group very nicely and the food was excellent. Some authentic Italian dishes and desserts. Worth the drive there if you love Italian.
World Fusion Sushi-O,(1988 N Future Terrace off 486, 352-513-3800) http://www.worldfusionsushi.o.com/. Must be popular for sushi which I do not eat and did not try. Even though it was a busy place, the meals for our party of 8 did not earn rave reviews and the service was iffy.
Margarita Grill (10200 Halls River Rd, 352-628-1336) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Margarita-Grill/111622735543130. Open with limited parking and a staff to train. Welcome back! Have to try it soon…the old restaurant was a great place on the water and the food was good!
Citrus County has a unique and upscale restaurant: The Greenhouse Bistro and Market. Their uniqueness lies in their menu (complete with wild game items which changes weekly . I have yet to hear a bad review by anyone of their dining experience there. Wine is reasonable. Check out their menu and prices on their website You must make a reservation (online) because it is a cozy size restaurant but it has expanded since it first opened with a nice “Butterfly Garden Room.” The owners are very attentive. The restaurant is located in Homosassa on 19 (2420 S. Suncoast Blvd) across from the Toyota dealership. The rear view of the property is nice on an inlet water. www.greenhousebistromarket.com 352-503-7276…the lunch menu and the Sunday brunch menu look delicious! Open Wed. and Thurs. 11-8 pm; Fri. and Sat. 11-9; Sunday 10-2pm. Fat Daddy’s Roadhouse has some bbq but the menu has a nice variety of southern dishes. Our meal was okay. Riverside Crab House- (5297 S Cherokee, 352-628-2474, http://www.riversideresorts.com/RiversideCrabHouse.html) In addition to regular restaurant hours, they offer a cruise and dinner package. For a resort area eatery, the food is okay and it is fun to be on the water and to also see Monkey Island. Yes…real monkeys. Voted one of the ten most unusual spots in Florida! The Freezer Tiki Bar (5590 South Blvd, 352-628-2452, https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Freezer/497426656936992?fref=ts A favorite of locals, prices are cheap–menu is limited: cole slaw, chips and salsa, hotdogs… but great peel and eat shrimp and Alaskan king crab legs, blue crabs and stone crabs in season or try the steak night on Wednesday. Don’t dress up to dine here; this is a warehouse with a boat dock with boaters and locals coming to enjoy the fun. Neon Leon’s Zydeco Steakhouse (10350 Yulee Dr, 352-621-3663, https://www.facebook.com/Neon-Leons-Zydeco-Steakhouse-141661885874019/). Have not been here in awhile; they do have live music. The menu had a nice selection and the food and service were very good our last visit. —may be to of business new sign outside I am told. Biscuit Barn (3297 Hwy 19, 352-765-4727, https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Biscuit-Barn/904525959604740). A breakfast and brunch place…it has nice reviews and we had a great breakfast there.
BEVERLY HILLS: Breakfast Station (3593 Lecanto Hwy, Winn Dixie Shopping Plaza, 352-513-3845, http://www.thebreakfaststation.com/, https://www.facebook.com/Breakfast-Station-7-1550195178572232/ ). Good service and good food has made this restaurant very popular! We frequently eat at the Bangkok Thai Restaurant (352-746-0443, 4925 Lecanto Hwy, http://www.bangkokthai.net/, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bangkok-Thai/119240138090519?fref=ts) and I had several people mention to me to make sure I praise this restaurant! Great Carry-out business. Beverly Hills Hotel’s Restaurant (Lecanto Hwy) I have not been there for years, and New England Pastry & Cafe continues to be a local favorite with reasonably priced home-style cooking. (3896 Lecanto Hwy, 352-527-3374, https://www.facebook.com/pages/New-England-Pastry-Cafe/111765285526032, http://www.newenglandcafe.com/); El Patio Tex-Mex, 3887 N Lecanto Hwy, : (352) 527-2102; https://www.facebook.com/pages/El-Patio/1375917369130451; A fairly new restaurant and we have been there twice. It is okay.
HERNANDO: Jimmy T’s New York Deli (919 Hwy 486, 352-637-5555, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jimmy-Ts-New-York-Deli/104910799552291) is a great place for breakfast and lunch. I like the crispy wrap; my husband likes that they have a chicken soup everyday and Boer’s Head meats. Cattledogs Coffee House (2416 Heritage Oaks, 352-249-3166, and a new location in Inverness ) www.cattledogroasters.com; has a nice selection for lunch, light breakfast and great coffee. The menu changes monthly. In the same plaza, Anastasia’s Restaurant (2492 Heritage PL, 352-513-4860, http://www.anastasiasrestaurant.com/, https://www.facebook.com/anastasiasrestaurant/?fref=ts). is a family run business with large menu and good sized portions of comfort food. Sabina’s Diner & Ice Cream Shop (2400 Hwy 41, 352-637-1308, http://www.sabinasdiner.com/, https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=i%20sabina’s%20diner%20hernando%20florida) Got our wires crossed and ended up here for lunch. “Been there done that.” Food was okay and reasonable. Ever been to Red’s (8411 Carl Rose Hwy (200), 352-344-4322, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Reds-Restaurant/111636325541824)? Great menu, HUGE portions! Delicious food and great service. Open for breakfast and lunch only. Expect a wait at peak times. They have a satellite restaurant in Hernando: Burger Station: (2700 N Florida Ave, 352-726-0040). https://www.facebook.com/BurgerStationHernando/ . A great place for a burger or hot dog. They are open 11-8.
Katch 22 (2924 Hwy 44, 352-746-6691, (www.katchtwentytwo.com); A top notch Citrus County restaurant. Delicious food and good service…needing to go back there soon. Paige’s Root Beer (2147 Norvell Bryant (486), 352-746-3351 -2nd location in Inverness, http://paigesrootbeer.com/, https://www.facebook.com/PaigesRootbeer/?fref=ts) is a place for old fashioned fried hamburgers and homemade root beer. Hamburgers like my mother used to make…little greasy, fried onions…and heartburn!? Good fries.
Havana House (1209 Lecanto Hwy, 352-746-1020, http://havanahousecafe.com/, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Havana-House-Cafe/128885443801856) has the best Cuban sandwiches. Never been there for breakfast or dinner.
