The week I review a couple of new Citrus County restaurants and update the Hernando, Lecanto, Beverly Hills area restaurants. I was surprised when updating previous restaurant blogs on how many places are gone. What’s new: McLeod House in Inverness closed this summer for good, Crumps Tiki Bar, on the water-is now open-we are waiting for cooler temps to try this outside restaurant. Greenhouse Bistro (Homosassa) has new owners! This restaurant is one of our favorites.
Here is an excerpt from their email:
To reinforce its goal of providing fresh, healthy, and locally-sourced food, The Greenhouse Bistro is pleased to announce the arrival of Edgar Garay, who has acquired the restaurant business. The Greenhouse Bistro will complement the indoor hydroponic farming towers that Edgar is developing in Orlando. This farm will supply healthy, fresh, and unique leafy greens and herbs to our kitchen. Future plans include the development of a farming tower attached to the restaurant, allowing guests a first-hand view of the production of the healthy ingredients used in our dishes.
The founders, Craig and Cindy, will remain as consultants and ambassadors of The Greenhouse Bistro.
New for breakfast and lunch: Raw Juice Bar and Cafe (932 N. Suncoast, Crystal River, 352-262-7884). Healthy smoothies, wraps, sandwiches, salads and soup. I had the Mediterranean wrap with chicken and it was very tasty. Also good the Harvest Spinach “salad of the day” and the tabouli.
New in the former Anastassia’s location (Hernando-Hertitage Hills) is Nicky B’s-All American. (He has had a restaurant in the Crystal River Mall Food Court.) Art’s “Detroit Dog” was okay-not as good as a Coney from Michigan. My Cobb Salad was very good. On a return visit we split the delicious Augusta Club Melt!. They are also open for breakfast and dinner which we have not tried. Seems like “Down home cooking” and good portions.
Here are Lecanto, Hernando, Beverly Hills restaurants we have tried:
BEVERLY HILLS: Breakfast Station (3593 Lecanto Hwy, Winn Dixie Shopping Plaza, 352-513-3845, http://www.thebreakfaststation.com/, https://www.facebook.com/Breakfast-Station-7-1550195178572232/ ). Good service and good food has made this restaurant a very popular! We frequently eat at the Bangkok Thai Restaurant (352-746-0443, 4925 Lecanto Hwy, http://www.bangkokthai.net/, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bangkok-Thai/119240138090519?fref=ts) and I have had several people mention to me, to make sure I praise this restaurant! Great Carry-out business. New England Pastry & Cafe continues to be a local favorite with reasonably priced home-style cooking. (3896 Lecanto Hwy, 352-527-3374, https://www.facebook.com/pages/New-England-Pastry-Cafe/111765285526032, http://www.newenglandcafe.com/):
HERNANDO: Jimmy T’s New York Deli (919 Hwy 486, 352-637-5555, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jimmy-Ts-New-York-Deli/104910799552291) is a great place for breakfast and lunch. I like the crispy wrap; my husband likes that they have a chicken soup everyday and Boer’s Head meats. They have a limited seating, reservation only dinner each Tuesday. Cattledogs Coffee House (2416 Heritage Oaks, 352-249-3166, and two locations in Inverness ) has a nice selection for lunch, light breakfast and great www.cattledogroasters.com
Paige’s Root Beer (2147 Norvell Bryant (486), 352-746-3351 -2nd locations in Inverness, http://paigesrootbeer.com/, https://www.facebook.com/PaigesRootbeer/?fref=ts) is a place for old fashioned fried hamburgers and homemade root beer. Often wins the “best Hamburger” award in CC. Sabina’s Diner & Ice Cream Shop (2400 Hwy 41, 352-637-1308. Got our wires crossed and ended up here for lunch. “Been there done that.” Food was okay and reasonable. The Mariana’s Stinky Rose (https://www.facebook.com/TheStinkyRose/?ref=br_rs&hc_ref=SEARCH&fref=nf; 2649 Forest Ridge Blvd (Publix), 352-270-8432. Two at our table had a different veal dish and they agreed they were excellent. One ordered spaghetti and meatballs and the delicious meatballs looked liked mini meatloaves! My seafood pasta was loaded with shrimp, calamari, clams, etc. No reservations. Sauced Hog (486) Local bar, good for BBQ. (352) 419-8990. Burger Station: (2700 N Florida Ave, 352-726-0040). https://www.facebook.com/BurgerStationHernando/ . A great place for a burger or hot dog. They are open 11-8.
Katch 22 is not just a seafood restaurant and it has a variety of items on the menu including beef, pork and pasta. One of the criticisms of the restaurant in its early days was the noise. They have added acoustical items to absorb sound and it seems to be working. The service is great: pricey but it’s worth a trip there. 2924 W Gulf to Lake Hwy, Phone: (352) 746-6691;https://www.facebook.com/Katch-Twenty-Two-347211705623315/;
http://www.katchtwentytwo.com/ Havana House (1209 Lecanto Hwy, 352-746-1020, http://havanahousecafe.com/, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Havana-House-Cafe/128885443801856) has the best Cuban sandwiches. Never been there for breakfast or dinner. World Fusion Sushi-O,(1988 N Future Terrace off 486, 352-513-3800 http://www.worldfusionsushi.o.com/, Popular for sushi, which I do not eat and did not try. Has a good following, our service was not good the night we were there. El Patio (3887 Lecanto Highway) is a newer Mexican restaurant that is in the spot where Skeets BBQ was located in Beverly Hills. I did like the idea that they served the salsa in a carafe and each person has their own bowl to put the salsa in. The chips are OK. http://www.menupix.com/menudirectory/menu.php?id=380093
I think I have updated the restaurants for these areas of Citrus County. Next, I will update Inverness venues. As always, your comments and ideas welcome!
