Well, after my last blog adventure resulting in a fall and incapacitated wrist, we’ve had to eat out more often! We have been patronizing our favorite eateries and experienced a brand new restaurant in the site of the old Isaac Walton’s Lodge called Blackwater in Yankeetown.
We had a very good meal at Blackwater located on the Withlacoochee River. I had the chef’s platter grilled and Art had the lightly blackened mahi-mahi and both were very good. They serve you a large, very good side salad (but if you do not like onions, there are a lot on it!) Their Key Lime pie is awesome and probably one of the best around. The only suggestion I make is when you make a reservation, ask for a window seat so you make sure you get a view of the river.
We’ve also had very good meals again at Katch 22: Lecanto Hwy 44 (mahi mahi and halibut). Greenhouse Bistro: 19 Homosassa (grouper) and the Seafood Seller: (Hwy 19 Crystal River) grouper, soft shell crab, mahi mahi and crab cakes always good. If you can get a group of 8-12 you can reserve the big table or group of 6 for the back room. Otherwise, no reservations and it is a popular place with usually a wait. We still like El Ranchito Hwy 19 Crystal River for Mexican and Bangkok Thai Hwy 491 Beverly Hills for Thai. We have had delicious seafood Friday nights at Vandervalks Hwy 41 Inverness.
We always enjoy Vintage on 5th (5th Ave Crystal River). I seem to order ahi tuna there and McLeod House (Inverness) where I order Chilean Sea Bass a lot.
We tried to the Biscuit Barn on Hwy 19 in Crystal River for lunch and it was good: BLT and Chef Salad. Of course, one of our favorite places is Dunnellon’s The Front Porch Hwy 41. Lunch menu is good but the lemon meringue pie is delicious! We also brought home a chicken pot pie from them for dinner and it was very good. Art’s favorite place for fried chicken is Oysters Hwy 19 Crystal River. I had their combo chicken and shrimp and it is good. Their cole slaw is lacking; order a salad. After our weekly bike rides we have lunch at Jimmy T’s New York Deli: Hwy 486-Annapolis, Hernando. Art loves the chicken soup and half sandwich. My favorite is the pressed crispy wrap (minus the onions and peppers.) Greek salad is excellent. Amy’s on the Avenue is a delightful place for lunch especially when you can sit outside on the patio. Love their daily quiche and great cookies! Cattledog Roaster’s: 3 locations Downtown Inverness, Citrus Memorial Hospital and Hernando Heritage Plaza. We tasted their 2018 Taste of Inverness award winning sandwich: Twisted Mad Cornbeef Panini but also good is the Cranberry Turkey Brie sandwich. They change their menu frequently. Creative gourmet I would say! Wonderful salads too. Only one complaint:they charge for iced tea refills!
Four-five more weeks in this cast… so many places to eat including this week: SWAMPYS in Dunnellon.
The Chronicle has had nice reviews of the Green House Bistro and Blackwater:
