This week I report ons our recent restaurant trips:
Bubbaques: Citrus Ave, Crystal River; We went there to test the Chronicle’s award winning place for “wings.” The wings were okay. Their ribs are good. They are smoked, tender, and you add one of 12 sauces to your meat.
Reds: Hernando, State Road 200: Looking for large portions? Here’s the place. Art and I split the club sandwich. Open for breakfast and lunch.
Dan’s Clam Stand: Gulf to Lake Highway (44) Crystal River; Love Maine Lobster? Served here in season here for $20 (1 1/4 pound cracked). Also well-known for their burgers, the fried shrimp is good and mahi mahi was good. Karen and Mike ordered the peel and eat shrimp and the yummy fried onion rings.
Los Magueyes: Now in 3 locations that are all busy… the best sign that the food and service is very good. Decor is over the top Mexican!
Havana House ((491 Lecanto) I still vote it… the best Cuban.
Applebees: Although a franchise and not a place we frequent, we had a good lunch at the Homosassa site on 19.
Outback Steakhouse: (44) Inverness; Had the special seafood combo which was crab cakes, lobster tail and skewered shrimp. A lot of seafood! Always a good place for a steak.
Stumpknockers ( downtown Inverness) Again a gang of 18 of us tested their food and service. The Stone Crab Claws: Fran reports were good and cracked correctly for eating. Pam loves the ahi tuna-huge portion. Several of us had the mahi mahi and it was good (served with choice of potato, green beans, hush puppies, and salad for $20. One (Judy) okay for the fried red fish while a second (Gloria) did not like hers. The fried catfish is always a favorite and one of the restaurant’s specialities. Margo, Vicki and Joan all enjoyed the fried shrimp. Nancy loved her prime rib-again, huge portion. Gil, John and Randy ordered a seafood pasta dish with a different sauce than what was on the menu and it took a couple of send backs to get it right (and clams in it were too cool). Pat enjoyed his huge portion of grouper. It is a good restaurant.
As a guest of Citrus Hills’s Skyview Restaurant, all of us were very impressed with our service and the food was very good. They run specials on Friday for $25 you will get an appetizer and dessert included with your entrée. Several of us had a seafood dish that was outstanding: lobster and shrimp, in a light sauce and served with lobster (cheese?) ravioli (too much to eat).
Happy Thanksgiving! Next Blog in December.
