We ventured to Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens (Williston FL) last week to celebrate our 24th anniversary with the thought of going to lunch at IVY’s House afterwards in Williston. It is a one mile hike or so through the gardens. The waterfalls and ponds created there are unbelievable in the rugged terrain. To think that this was someone’s house and they had these gardens built! Flowers blooming will vary by season-must have been beautiful this winter when the camellias and azaleas were in bloom.
I must warn you that it is a very rugged hike. Occasional stairs and lots of uneven grounds. In fact, you have to pay attention to where you are walking while you’re looking at waterfalls, swans, koi ponds, flowers etc. I saw a flower I wanted to photograph and low and behold I tripped took a nasty fall on a cement walk path… have a broken wrist, bumped knees and a head cut. I’m OK; learning to use my left hand now since my right hand is immobilized. It is not a place you want to take young children (not much to excite them anyway except the swan).
Enjoy the pics (they are better on Facebook since the “live” pics show waterfalls…)
Less than an hour drive from Lecanto. $12.00 for adults. The drive into the gardens is very rugged; we worried about our car…but the driveway out is okay.
The gardens are built into a lime rock quarry, so there is a very steep ramp to access the lower levels. That said, we have some wonderful overlooks along the upper trail. It is not perfectly level throughout the entire trail, so it would be a strength challenge for someone pushing a wheelchair.
