COVID-19 quarantine continues to be a major director of our lifestyles. We have not ventured out to dinner in a restaurant but we continue to do carry outs. We have had some lunches out…Black Diamond, Jimmy T’s and Front Porch. This Monday the restaurants can go to 50% capacity and so dining will have more patrons in the restaurants than what we saw these last two weeks. Here are our updated reports on lunch/ carry out dinners. (P.S. Crumps making an annoucment tomorrow (5/18) RE-OPENING????)
I think the winner for carryouts is Cody’s Roadhouse. I ordered a full slab of ribs which I knew I couldn’t eat, but like the leftovers. The ribs are delicious they’re-“fall off the bone.” Art ordered his usual chopped steak-prepare to his temperature request. Why was Cody’s the best? The dinner carry out included two huge salads more than what we could eat in two days sittings, 5 rolls and a ton of french fries. Excellent drive thru pick up service!
Jimmy’s Cajun Seafood Seller was also excellent. Our carry out dinners of mahi-mahi and seafood scallops were delicious. Their coleslaw is very good. Art likes their Cajun corn and their french fries are always very, very good. Hwy 19;

Art’s birthday dinner from Vintage on Fifth dinner included the rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly and again more than I could eat in one sitting. Yummy augratin potatoes and a house salad.

Mariana’s Stinky Rose: We both had the tasty veal marsala. I had leftovers for lunch. The house salad is very good as well as their bread.

We also order from Bankok Thai. We favor the Pad Thai and Cashew dinners. The food is always piping hot and the spring rolls are delicious… and portions: again leftovers. 352-746-0443; 4025 Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills
Katch 22: Chilean sea bass with mashed parsnip and the special red snapper with french fries were excellent as well as the salad of the day.

Black Diamond carryout again is available for anyone in the community. They have expanded the dinner hour to 6:30! We did not have dinner there this week…nothing on menu to our fancy. But, swordfish, fried chicken and fish and chips were good in the past. I like this week’s specials better!
774-313-0882. Pick up is at the left side of the building just past the pool area.
The Front Porch: Great food and pies. Good Cuban and BLT “Homemade Country Cooking.” … Eat dessert (pie) first! 12039 N. Florida Ave (41); 352-489-4708; https://www.frontporchrestaurantpieshop.com/
Jimmy T’s NY Deli (919 Hwy 486, 352-637-5555, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jimmy-Ts-New-York-Deli/104910799552291) is a great place for breakfast and lunch. I like the crispy wrap; Greek salad and chicken salad. Art likes that they have a chicken soup everyday and Boer’s Head meats.
from a reader: We found Oscar Penn in Inverness to be excellent take-out. We had Mother’s Day Brunch from there and it was outstanding. They have also started a Friday night outdoor seating in the lovely area beside the restaurant with a special every Friday night. We think their food is one of the best in the county.
We like the fried chicken from Publix as well as Winn-Dixie. I also hear the Olive Garden carry outs are well worth the money!
Still a little timid about dining out…Most restaurants offer a tempting seating outside but it’s been a little hot to sit outside for dinner for us! I am re-thinking dinner out, dinner for two will probably be okay, but it is hard to social distance when there are more than two people. I do miss being “waited on” and enjoy the idea of someone else cleaning up!
