Where to Live if you Live for Golf and/or Making Friends
Black Diamond Ranch-Citrus County (Lecanto) Florida
Black Diamond Ranch is a gated, private golf community boasting 49 award winning holes of Tom Fazio golf. There are 3 distinct courses and a 4-hole Par 3 course: Diamond Dunes. The Quarry course has ranked in the top 100 Golf Courses for 22 consecutive years. The Community has been distinguished as one of Florida’s #1 Private Golf Communities. You are in a golf paradise if you live here. But what if you are not a golfer or a seven-days-a-week -can’t get enough golf person? What else does the community offer? I have spent 18 weeks talking about the Citrus County and surrounding areas’ sporting opportunities, travel adventures, shopping venues, and other amenities. Inside the gates we have several groups of individuals who meet for a variety of activities: Women’s Bible Study; Book Club, Bridge; Mahjong; Slide Bottom Gin, Poker, and the Crafters and Stitchers. All these groups are a good way for new members to meet people.
The Women’s Bible Study meets on Monday mornings (9:30-10:30) at the clubhouse. Attendance fluctuates during the seasons and holidays but there are 20 people sometimes and new members are welcome. Contact Gloria Schultz.
The Book Club (who met last week after reading (The Luckiest Girl Alive) meets once a month. The group decides on the next book to read and they rotate homes for their meetings. The October book is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. Next meeting is October 15. New members are welcome. Contact Faith Houle.
There are several bridge groups at Black Diamond Ranch. All skill levels are welcome in the various groups. The Friday morning group is Party (Chicago scoring) four hands switch partners. Sign-up sheet is outside the golf shop. $1 to play and nickels when you go down (per trick.) In season, there is a first and third Wednesday of the month night (6:30 pm) duplicate bridge group or non life master points game. It is a mixed team game. $5 entry fee. Contact Clare Rodes. There are many Bridge groups in surrounding area.
The Mahjong players (15-16 people or so) are welcoming experienced as well as people who want to learn. The main group meets at noon on Mondays at the clubhouse and play for several hours. Contact Marilyn Bassos.
Slide Bottom Gin is played twice a month at the club at 6:30 pm. Many of the players meet at the club for an early dinner and play til about 8:30 pm. Contact Dona Wood. All welcome. $3 a game. Easy to learn!
The “Knitters and Crafters” also known as the “Stitchers” meet each Wednesday around 10 am in the Clubhouse. In season, there may be 20 women there. Some will be knitting, crocheting, needle pointing, quilting, beading and making jewelry. And some people only come and observe. There is lots of “chatting” and many stay for lunch afterwards. “Show and Tell” is also on the agenda. Many ladies are learning skills from other members. It is a great group for Black Diamond Ranch newcomers who want to meet other members! Contact Linda Radabaugh.
